MULE TRAIN – This was last year but it could have been just about any year lately. Buster and Diane McSparran of Hamilton rode in the annual Fourth of July parade. Riding in back was Doris Tollett. The parade tomorrow will launch the July 4 activities in Sanderson but it really gets under way tonight with a “jam” session by the Terrell County Bs.

SANDERSON – What is probably the biggest festival of the year on the Terrell County calendar, the annual Fourth of July celebration, is here.

It all starts “at sundown” tonight, July 3, when the popular band, the “Terrell County Bs,” sets up for a “jam session” in front of Sanderson High School.

The “gig” kicks off a full day of activities tomorrow, the official observance of the 233rd anniversary of the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

In case of rain, either tonight or tomorrow, activities will move to the Fair Hall on Hackberry Street, two blocks east of the Courthouse.

Sanderson School Band Director Eric Cooksey, a member of the local band, said the “Bs” will play in a “jam session” for community entertainment Friday but people are free to dance if they want.

There also is a disc jockey at the El Patio Lounge from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. Backers of both presentations said they would promote each other, encouraging celebrants to visit both attractions

Except for the Friday night presentations, the July 4 observance will all be tomorrow.

Vendors will be able to start setting up on the Courthouse Lawn at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow but Road and Bridge Supervisor Mike Sanchez, who will coordinate the booth setups, said vendors need to be set up and ready to go by 10 a.m. so he can assure everyone has enough electrical power.

The east courthouse parking lot will be closed to set up an emergency services display but the east parking lot and Hackberry Street can access the lawn.

Those needing power to set up for tonight’s jam session should contact Sanchez today at 432/770-8991.

Vendors need to have filled out an application so their
