Eagles score well at track

The junior high and high school track teams took home several first place awards and placed well competing with larger schools at their first track meets last week.

The Varsity Eagles went to Fort Stockton to participate in the Comanche Relays Saturday and the junior high journeyed to McCamey Friday.

The high school boys divided up into two different groups with Shawn Stegall and David Shoemaker making up the division 2 Sanderson boys’ team and Jacob Benavidez, Chris Marquez, Travis Roberts and William Roberts competed against the bigger schools in division 1.

Shawn placed first in the mile and second in the two mile and David placed first in the discus and second in the shot put.

The boys who competed in Division 1 placed sixth overall out of 29 teams.

Travis placed first in both the mile and two mile, Jacob placed first in the 200-meter dash, and Chris placed second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 800.   

For the high school girl results, Hanna Swanson placed second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash and Julianna Larrinaga placed fourth in the discus.

Abby Carrasco placed first in the mile and two mile for the junior high girls at the McCamey Meet Friday. Kayla Fuéntez placed fourth in the two mile and third in the mile and Cassie Woosley placed fifth in the 400-meter dash.

For the junior high boys, Jalen Chriesman placed first in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the discus.

Daniel Luevano placed third in the 400-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash.

Luis Garza finished second in the two mile and third in the mile.

In the relays, Jalen Chriesman, Mason Blackmon, Daniel Luevano and Luis Garza placed first in the 4 x 200-meter.

Chris Birkenfeld, Joey Carrasco, Alexis Olivares and Santiago Gonzales placed sixth in the 4 x 100-meter.

Third graders researched a particular Native American tribe and made reports. One group, from left, included Wyatt Mills, Kailey Dominguez, Elijah Carrasco and Darion Kersey.

Eagles second in girls tennis

Victoria Busch placed second in girls singles as the Eagle tennis teams traveled to Van Horn for the annual tournament last Friday. 

Noemi Nuñez and Jessica Garza placed third in girls doubles and overall the girls placed second.

The 15 tennis players that attended had a very long day, but came out with great success.

Cordell Lawson placed third in boys singles. Casey Couch and Alan Marquez will play L.A. Galvan and Jonathan Calzada for third place at home in boys doubles

In mixed doubles, Blakeney Chriesman and Darren Seidel won Consolation.
