SANDERSON – The violence and corruption from the Mexican drug cartels are spilling over to the US side and our response is not always appropriate, it was alleged this week.

Will Hurd of San Antonio, who has served for nine years as an operations officer for the US Central Intelligence Agency, is running for the Republican nomination to the US Congress.

He met with a small group of local supporters Tuesday at the RoundHouse Café here.

Hurd faces Francisco “Quico” Canseco for the Republican nomination to face US Rep. Ciro Rodriguez in the November general election.

“Early” voting ends today, April 9, at the Terrell County Courthouse and the primary runoff election is Tuesday, also at the Terrell County Clerk’s Office.

Hurd said those who voted in the Democratic primary cannot run in the Republican runoff but those who did not vote on March 2 will be able to vote in either runoff.

He said important issues include the border as well as fiscal responsibility, which he will address in both campaigns.

Hurd said he is working throughout the district, visiting three cities per day in 16 counties, while his opponent is concentrating his efforts in San Antonio.

He said San Antonio has about twice as many registered  voters  as  the  rest  of  his  district  but a heavy
