SANDERSON – Final plans were “95 percent complete” for a new field house to be built just east of the competition football field at Eagle Stadium and could go to contract as early as Tuesday, July 28.

The Terrell County School Board got a look at the almost-final drawings at its regular monthly meeting Monday.

The regular construction meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and the project could go to contract after that meeting.

The board approved the scope of the field house last month. It was reduced from a 7,748-square-foot, $1.7 million facility proposed by architect Monte Hunter in December to 5,095 square feet by the school board last month.

The board Monday asked Athletic Director Mark Dominguez to review the plans and make final adjustments as needed.

Superintendent Gary Hamilton said students working to raise funds for Project Graduation helped take out carpeting, ductwork and other projects to help prepare for the renovation of the old field house.

“All the carpeting is up and the ceiling has been torn out,” Hamilton said. “The equipment area is being enlarged.”
