Constellation of the month
SANDERSON – Some people in Sanderson will live in another voting precinct next year, even though they will stay right where they are.
Attorney
Bob Bass of Allison Bass & Associates of Austin presented his final redistricting plan to Commissioners Court at a public hearing
Tuesday.
There were a few questions from the audience but no challenges to the issue.
Bass said the US Census every ten years requires
governments to redraw their lines to equalize population per district and counties were required to do it after 1968 when Avery v
Midland County resulted in such an order.
Bass said Terrell County has decreased in population since the 2000 Census from 1,081 to 984, meaning there should as close as possible to 246 residents in each of the four precincts.
He said he is required by law to keep
the variance within ten percent.
HIGH STEPPERS – Walking with knees high was one of the exercises for the Sanderson Eagles football team on their first “two-a-day”
practice Monday. The Eagles scrimmage next Friday at Balmorhea and host Buena Vista the next week before their first game against
Grady at the McCamey West Texas Shootout Saturday, Aug. 27.
HOW DRY I AM – This staged shot labeled “Texas rain gauge” is making the rounds on social media but it has a clear message. We need
rain. Sanderson has fared better than some with more than half an inch of rain so far this year. But it’s far less than it should
be.

Eagles start with two-a-days
SANDERSON – The 2011 Sanderson Eagles football season started bright and early Monday morning this week
with the start of “two-a-day” practices, which will continue until the first scrimmage August 12 in Balmorhea.
Residents got their

was published.
School ratings drop
SANDERSON – The Terrell County Independent School District was rated “academically acceptable” and both elementary
and secondary campuses received “recognized” status in the latest ratings by the Texas Education Agency.
The TCISD ratings were a demotion
from the “exemplary” ratings for all sectors last year but ratings for most school districts “plummeted this year, as expected,” the
agency said.

WASHINGTON, DC – US Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco of Texas voted for the Budget Control Act in the House Monday.
The measure
was seen as a “compromise” to increase the debt limit along with some budget “cuts” but no tax increase.
“Tonight, after a great deal
of reading, reflection and discussion on what is included in this final bill, I cast a vote in favor of the Budget Control Act,” said
Canseco, whose district includes Terrell County.
“Let me be clear, this bill is not the bill my colleagues and I would have drafted if we were in control of the government,”
