SANDERSON – The first Nopalito Market here Saturday, part of an action-packed weekend in West Texas, was considered a “success” by the market committee.

The weekend kicked off Friday night with the Sanderson Eagles winning their season opener and first district game of the new season by beating Buena Vista 46 to 28.

Next that night was a fireworks show by Dr. Darrel Wells of Sanderson and Huntsville, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, a rain check from the July 4 schedule after heavy rains that weekend.

The Nopalito Market had its “test run” Saturday, Sept. 4, and everyone we talked to was impressed with both the vendors and the public that showed up.

Many vendors ran out of supplies before the day was over, a sure sign of success, and many also signed up for the next market scheduled for December 4 and 5.

Further west, Alpine hosted its annual Big Bend Balloon Bash and another 26 miles west, Marfa provided its annual Marfa Lights Festival.
