FOUR QUEENS – Candidates for Homecoming queen posed for a picture this week dressed in their garbs for " Go CRAZY on the Chargers"

SANDERSON – Terrell County Commissioners Monday approved a budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 and adopted a tax rate of 42.5
cents per $100 taxable value.
They also approved the salary schedule for next year which appeared in the News Leader last week, Sept.
10, Page 9.
County Treasurer Lynda Helmers said the budget shows total income of $6.04 million against $8.9 million in expenses but
that is “not an accurate picture.”
She said the program the county uses does not show special funds like the Venue Tax or the checking
account on the income side, giving the appearance of a deficit budget.
Helmers said she uses the figure for the operating budget of
$4,756,508 because that is the money the county will take in and then spend for its operations during the year.
The 42.5 cent tax rate
was “proposed” last month. It is up from 37.38 cents in the current year, an amount which would bring in virtually the same revenue
next year.
The increase was said to be needed to cope with decreasing valuations and to offset the need for an even-bigger boost next year.
