SANDERSON – A plan to pay a three-percent cost of living adjustment to county employees could face a hurdle, County Judge Chago Flores
said Friday.
The discussion came after the second public hearing on the county’s proposed 57.27 cent tax rate for the coming year.
There
was no discussion on the tax but there was a general discussion of items relating to the budget.
Commissioner Yolanda Lopez suggested
at the budget hearing Monday, Sept. 12, that COLA raises for employees could be considered if they did not include elected officials.
But
Flores said Friday some elected official had told him that plan “totally wasn’t fair.”
He said making the raises available to all would
not be possible by state law in the time remaining to adopt a budget and tax rate.
The salaries for elected officials were published Sept.
