NEW EDITOR – Arlene Griffis, shown here with husband Steve at the recent Chili Cookoff, is the new editor of the Marathon News Leader. She has been contributing a regular column from the Friends of the Marathon Library but readers will now get to hear more from her. Welcome aboard.

EN LA CASA – Eduardo Ruiz of Canutillo as Thomas and Amber Bowman of Odessa as Nora engaged in a heartfelt discussion in this scene from "Casa de Muñeca," Liz Castillo's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House.” The modern version of the Ibsen classic will be performed Oct. 24-26 at the Studio Theatre in the Francois Fine Arts Building on the Sul Ross State University campus. It opens next week.

IS IT LOUD? – Loreyna Cardoza sounded a home smoke alarm this week as Alyssandra “Ally” Cardoza, Monique Pinedo and Isaac Briones held their ears. The kids attended a fire-prevention program this week by the Marathon Fire Department during Fire Prevention Week.

MOON OVER OJ – A full moon was evident this week over downtown Ojinaga, Chih. Businesses are open but traffic at the bridge and in town are down because of recent flooding along the Rio Grande.

CANDIDATES – Lyle Larson, left, candidate for US Congress, met in Sanderson with, from left, Don Kelso, Thomas “T.C.” Kincaid, Jr., and Dru Kincaid. Larson is running for the 23rd Congressional District seat. Kincaid is a candidate for the 74th District seat in the Texas House.
