IN MEMORY – Esmeralda Werbeck, left, who died of breast cancer in 2005, was shown with her sister Rosalinda Crase at the Gage Restaurant before she died. Esmeralda was the inspiration for “Esmeralda’s Run” for breast cancer in Marathon this month, arranged by Rosalinda and others.

FIRST TIMER – Michael Grizzle of Kerrville was the first one across the line for the full marathon in the M2M last weekend. Grizzle, who was running his first marathon, said he felt good. He could have gone farther but he admitted he was glad to see the finish line.

OUT FOR A STROLL – James Blankenship accepted a cool cup of water from Mindy Self and Steven Lewis as he passed the last water stop in the M2M last weekend. The Sixth Annual race was from near Alpine to downtown Marathon.

MUSTANG ROYALTY – Colten Johnson, aka “Coltina” and Marisol Aguilar were named queen & king at the powder puff football game in Marathon last week. In the powder puff game, the “ladies” play flag football while the guys cheer them on.

GOING TO THE DOGS – Even dogs were welcome to run in the M2M last weekend. These runners were nearing the finish line  in downtown Marathon.

WALK FOR CANCER – This group of Marathon walkers took an easy pace as they commemorated the valiant struggle of Esmerelda Werbeck and all cancer patients.
