BURNING BUSH – It wasn’t Moses but firefighters from a wide area that found much of the grassland – and bushes – on fire Friday. This was a scene at a 51,400-acre fire in northern Terrell and eastern Pecos County. Several structures were threatened but none lost in the massive fire.

TOO CLOSE – Thick smoke moved in on vehicles of responders to a major grass fire about 30 miles north of Sanderson Friday. The fire burned all weekend and into Monday, threatening several structures but none was damaged and there were no reported injuries.

BURNING QUESTION – More of the  major grass fire near the Pecos-Terrell County line Friday.  Smoke billowing up was visible from Sanderson 30 miles to the south. High winds and single-digit relative humidity caused widespread wildfires throughout West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.

LICENSE TO AIRNeil Chavigny of Marathon discussed his plans for an FM community radio station for Marathon this week. The license should come “any day” and he plans to make his mike available to the community in addition to providing Public Radio programming.

LOOK WHAT I GOT – Colee Charlesworth stopped for a quick pose while hunting eggs last week. Kids in grades pre-kindergarten through fourth grade went on a progressive egg hunt to celebrate Easter.

I WON – Isaac Briones sold the most tickets and received a little Easter present early. He sold 271 tickets for the drawing for two Easter baskets, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization.

GARDEN OF EVEClyde Curry and Kate Thayer relaxed recently in their Eve’s Garden bed and breakfast in Marathon. The two discussed how the restful garden atmosphere can restore hope and inspire ways of making the world a better place.
