RUN, ZACH – Marathon Colt Zach Gonzalez won the 200-meter dash at the Rio Grande Relays in Sanderson last week. He also placed second
in the 100-meter dash. Three Colts brought home four first-place honors at the meet.
YOUNG SWINGERS – A group of Marathon kids took advantage of volunteer work done at the elementary school last week. Members of the Student Council, the Parent Teacher Organization and other volunteers are performing extensive clean up at the school.
THIS AND THAT – Evelyn Hughett has re-opened her gift shop across from the TransPecos Bank and the Gage Hotel in Marathon. When she’s not in the shop tending to customers, she’s writing poetry or feeding her birds. There just not enough time for all a busy 85-year-old has to do.
AT THIS STAGE – Sanderson fourth grades took an imaginary ride on a stagecoach at Fort Lancaster last week. Shown on top, from left,
were Elias Hafner, John Pierce, Andrew Portillo and Jesse Roberts. Inside, from left, were Edwin Carrasco, Mariah Aguilar and James
