TOO SLOWEnrique Hernandez may not be the fastest biker in town. But he is the slowest. Hernandez, of Ciudad Acuña, Coah., has won the “Slow Race” at the Sanderson Buzzard Rally four years in a row. In the contest, the winner is the slowest rider.

LION PRIDELions Club District Governor Pete Francis of Andrews and banker Dale Lascano of Sanderson both addressed the weekly Sanderson Lions Club meeting last week. Francis reported on the club’s philanthropic missions while Lascano told about a program to teach children to save money.

AIRPORT TERMINALThe terminal area at the Terrell County Airport has not changed much since this picture was taken about five years ago. The Beech King Air at the left, partially hidden behind the prop, is one of the larger aircraft that regularly come to call.

DEEP SUBJECT – Nope, it’s not an oil well. It’s another water well being drilled in Marathon by Skinner's Drilling. This is a residential permitted well at Alta Vista.

ALL ALONE?It just looked like it last week when Hannah Black of Sanderson was way out front in a race at the District Track Meet. The Lady Eagles came in third with 121 points and their male classmates also placed third with 97 points.

HURDLES Sanderson’s Blakeney Chriesman cleared some hurdles in a preliminary race in the district track meet last week. Sixteen Eagles qualified for the Area meet in Wink Tuesday.

ONE ARM RUNNER Jimmy Rapp faced the hurdles just days after having a cast put on his broken wrist, which of course occurred runnin' the hurdles.  But then again, who needs arms to run?

COW CLASS – Sanderson Elementary students learned about milking cows from Cody Lightfoot recently. New milkers shown from left were Analise Galvan, Taryn Mitchell, Justin Maguire, Jayden Montalvo, Isaiah Stratton and Kate Roberts. Oh, yea. In back is Grace, the cow.

STONED – A new interpretation of guidelines could allow $960,000 in grant money to be used to extend drainage ditches across Sanderson.  Terrell County is providing labor to line ditches with native stone like this newest application at Mansfield and Fifth Streets.

ALL ACROSS TEXAS? – No, each walker doesn’t have to walk “across Texas” but it is hoped each can contribute his share. Don Kelso, who headed the winning courthouse team of walkers last year, signed on the dotted line again this year. Looking, from left, were AgriLife Consumer and Family Services Agent Evans Kott, Cactus Health Chief Teresa Smith and Cactus Outreach Coordinator Karen Sanchez.

FUNDS FOR FUN – Jessica Garza of Sanderson raised “big bucks” at the Buzzard Rally last week. She is working to raise money for a trip to Europe this summer as a “Student Ambassador” and the bikers “ate up” her offerings of hamburgers, menudo and brisket burritos, filling her tip jar with cash.
