M&M CAR – Dave Carpenter of Parker, CO, revealed a part of his popular “M&M” racecar to friend Marilyn Anderson of Seattle
Wednesday. Carpenter is back in the “unlimited” class in the Big Bend Open Road Race tomorrow from Fort Stockton to Sanderson and
back. Anderson is the only solo woman driver in this year’s race.
HIGHNESSES – Hannah Black and Davis Stumberg were crowned queen and king of the Junior/Senior Prom last week. Hannah was also chosen
as class favorite and all-school favorite. “Spark of Night” was the theme of the prom.
LIKE HIS SON – Coach John Pierce showed John Junior how to catch a baseball this week at practice. Holding the bat was Anthony
Fuéntez. Practice has begun and the first grame will be May 1.
WELCOME – Race Coordinator Kenda Furman of Fort Stockton welcomed race crews as they signed in at the Terrell County Community Building
Wednesday. The Big Bend Open Road Race began with registration and other activities Wednesday. The big race is tomorrow, April 26.
LOS JAKS – Organizer Ruben Gonzales stood beside a poster for the Los Jaks Motorcycle Rally on a wall of his Oasis Café in Marathon.
The image was designed by graphic artist Dan Picasso and painted by landscape artist Mary Baxter, both of Marathon.
RACE TRUCK – Bobby Stegall of Sanderson, right, showed off his entry in the Big Bend Open Road Race to Daylon Royal of Lamesa Wednesday.
Stegall raced in earlier races with a 1962 Chevrolet pickup. This truck is equipped with a 6.9-liter diesel engine.
DOES IT HURT? – Taylor Guadarrama, 2, and brother John, 5, watched Saturday as veterinarian Dr. Paul Weyerts injected their dog at
the county Rabies Clinic. Sweetie, their one-year-old Dachshund, took it all in stride. Johnny Garza helped out while Mom Tina Guadarrama
looked on.
HEY BATTA, BATTA – Justin Flax took a swing at a pitch from the “T” at baseball practice this week. Justin is the son of Julie Ramirez
of Sanderson and Mickey Corbett of Eagle Pass. Summer baseball gets under way next week in Sanderson.
