LOS JAKSOrganizer Ruben Gonzales stood beside a poster for the Los Jaks Motorcycle Rally on a wall of his Oasis Café in Marathon. The image was designed by graphic artist Dan Picasso and painted by landscape artist Mary Baxter, both of Marathon.

 

GEESE A FLYINGCarol Henthorne of the Marathon Basin Quilting Guild showed off a quilt to be raffled at the quilt show next week. Pieced by Janie Roberts, the quilt was quilted by the guild. The quilt pattern is "Flying Geese."

RIDING FOR RESEARCH Marathon Elementary students raised nearly $1,000 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of Memphis recently. Alexis Bowers, who had 18 laps, here helped little Giana Gonzales who went 13 laps.

DON’T CRYTristyn Galindo, Sarah Arenas and Colee Charlesworth pulled green onions in the Marathon Elementary School garden this week. The garden teaches the children about basic biology and selling their products at The French Co. Grocery provides a lesson on capitalism.

DIG THISClint Roberts of Marathon, grandson of PreK and kindergarten teacher LaVerne Avery and father of second grade student Zane Roberts, spent the morning this week moving soil and manure into the elementary garden. The students plant vegetables that they sell at The French Co. Grocery.

PET BEERRuben Gonzales posed with his favorite quaff at his Oasis Café this week. Gonzales is a key organizer of the Los Jaks motorcycle rally this weekend, which benefits the bereavement fund at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
