LOOK OUT, TIGER – Giana Gonzales prepared to sink a put last week at a field day trip to Fort Stockton. Looking on was PTO President
Judy Briones. The kids also bowled, visited the Annie Riggs Museum and old Fort Stockton and, of course, had pizza and soft drinks.
FORMER GLORY – The Rio Grande through Big Bend National Park was much grander in wetter years. It’s been extremely dry in recent months
but the big river also has to contend with silting and sediment as well as non-native plants that have choked the flow in many areas.
COZY CONTEST – Raffle tickets are now available for a queen-size quilt made by Marathon Librarian Carol Townsend for $5 or 3 for $12.
The drawing will be at the July 4 dance at the Post Park.
REMINDER – For those who miss our Dos Zetas column by Zach Zniewski, here is one of his charges. This youngster was spotted hanging
out at the “Chavigny Corral.”
JAIL AND JUNK – The old jail south of the railroad tracks in Marathon has had company lately. Tires, ties and tin cans piled up in
debris piles next to the old jail building.
FULL HOUSE – The Marathon Health Center was busy Monday afternoon. The clinic is open from 08:30 to 11:30 a.m. for walk-ins and 1
to 4:30 p.m. for appointments. Call 386-4316 for more information.
BEST IN STATE – Travis Armstrong, grandson of Mike and Gerry Armstrong of Sanderson, won first place and Best in State with his BBQ
trailer at the State finals of the Technology Student Association in Waco recently. Travis traveled with the Fort Stockton High School
Industrial Technology classes that held onto the state title for all 3A schools, winning it for the fourth year in a row.
