GO OUT FOR A SPLASH – Mikey Shoemaker caught a pass from Phillip Lascano seconds before impacting with the water at the Bicentennial
Park Swimming Pool last week. A swimming party marked the official signup for the Terrell County Summer Recreation Program.
SITE PLAN – A preliminary site plan for the proposed Terrell County Convention Center is for a 16,500-square-foot building with parking
for 50 cars. It would seat up to 500 in a hall that could be divided in threes for smaller meetings. It would also include another
meeting room and a senior citizen center.
PIG PEN – The new pavilion in Bicentennial Park sometimes looks like a pig pen with users leaving trash and debris and even urinating
on the cement floor, County Judge Leo Smith said Monday. The county adopted new rules in an effort to keep the facility clean and
in good working order for all users.
NEW OWNER – The small filling station and convenience store on East Oak near the Dairy King Restaurant is under new ownership. Jennifer
Miller, who is moving from Bluff Dale in central Texas, bought the property at auction last week. She and her partner Kenny Fred Stratton
“may” use it as a deer processing facility.
FUTURE STUDENT – Nine-month-old Abbagayle Roberts attended Vacation Bible School this week. “It’s never too soon to get them involved,”
Mom Mary Roberts said. Roberts – Mary, that is – volunteered all week.
GEARUP GUYS – Members of the “GEARUP” team posed for pictures this week. Boys, from left, included Andy Milstead, Jonathan Calzada,
Casey Couch, Ralston Rosas, L.A. Galvan, and Kelly Lomas. Not pictured was Cordell Lawson.

Roxanna Rodriguez, Lizette Ramirez, Juliana Castro, Noemi Nuñez, Brianna Johnson, Ernestina Gonzalez and, in front, chaperone Rosa
Gonzalez.
WHAT’S WRONG – It’s been a while since we have had a “mystery photo” in which we paid $5 for the first person to identify a landmark.
This is not quite the same. But we’ll pay $5 to the first person to tell us what’s wrong with this picture.
HERE’S THE PLAN – Odessa architect Monty Hunter provided Terrell County Commissioners with a preliminary plan for a convention center
Monday. Looking on were County Judge Leo Smith and Commissioner Della Fuentes.
PROMOTION – Keith Williamson, left, who has been a deputy Terrell County deputy sheriff since February, was promoted this week to
sergeant. Congratulating him was Sheriff Clint McDonald. A native of Blanco, Williamson brought 25 years of law enforcement experience
– and his wife Sandra – to Sanderson from McCamey where he worked previously.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Tracey Navarez posed with Albert Cantu as he played last week. Groovy Fryday, a rock band consisting of Cantu, Tracey’s
husband Bobby Navarez and Marco Montalvo, showed up in Sheffield to play for Tracey’s Birthday.
SACK THE QUARTERBACK! – Mikey Shoemaker caught the pass but he will have to do his victory dance on the bottom of the pool.
JUNK IN THE TRUNK – No, it’s pot. A Terrell County Sheriff’s deputy teamed up with US Border Patrol agents to arrest one Mexican national
and recover about $350,000 worth of pot. One load of about 372 pounds was in the truck of one car.
