WATER ROCKET – No, it’s not a rocket. It’s Marathon Water Supply tower No.1. Last year MWS supplied some 33 mil gals of well water
to Marathon residents. 10, 9, 8 . . . no, not this one.
LIGHT OF DAY – Dr. Keith Klein of Sul Ross State University is researching alternate energy sources, including solar. The giant wheel
holds reflectors that concentrate solar energy for a variety of chores.
ON A CLEAR DAY – Ken Bairlipp, left, is helping Dr. Keith Klein of Sul Ross State University with a solar project. The Sun can be
used to generate energy but it can also use algae in a process to produce vegetable oil, which can then generate more energy.
NOT HERE – Billowing cumulonimbus clouds have been seen all around Sanderson in recent weeks but the rain gauge has generally stayed
dry. This was south of town, probably in Mexico, last week. There has been some rain in the county, including a brief shower Wednesday,
but Sanderson has recorded less than an inch of rain all year.
HOLE IN THE GROUND – Albert and Sheri Thorn dug some eight-foot holes in the ground this week and erected poles for warning sirens.
They were contractors to Storm Sirens, Inc., of Norman, OK, which is putting two sirens in Sanderson, one at the Road and Bridge yard
on the east side of town and one at the Texas Department of Transportation yard on the west side. The two should provide warnings
to the entire town of Sanderson.
NEW WARDENS – Saul Aguilar, left picture, is one of two new game wardens stationed in Terrell County. He posed with his wife Marcie,
and three charges, Gabby, Isaiah and Adam Michael, at graduation from the academy. The other new warden is Ken Stennard, 24, who is
single. The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife increased the game warden presence in Terrell County as part of a “beefing up”
program.
