MOON OVER MY HORSE – Mark Glover of the News Leader Marathon Bureau caught this horse one evening under a full moon. A full Moon occurs
when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. But the horse didn’t care. It was just enjoying a pleasant evening.
BUZZARD ON A STICK – This buzzard was spotted near Marathon recently, calmly resting on the top of a sotol plant. Mark Glover of the
Marathon News Leader snapped this photo near dusk one day.
FIRE DANGER – The severe drought conditions in Southwest Texas this year have created an extreme fire danger. Numerous wildland fires
have broken out throughout the region like this 50,400-acre fire in March in north Terrell County and east Pecos County.
PRESIDENTIAL THOUGHTS – Sul Ross State University President Vic Morgan, shown here at his desk, sat down with Marathon News Leader
reporter Mark Glover this week. Morgan’s wife, Mary Jane, participated in a TAKS committee for Marathon ISD two years ago.
ARMADILLO RODEO – Children in the Marathon Public Library Summer Reading Program decorated cowboy boots this week. From left, they
were Sara Arenas, Tristyn Galindo, Noah Lopez and Jessie Lopez. The coloring came after Jackie Boyd read “Armadillo Rodeo” by Jan
Brett.
REFLECTIONS – The calm waters in the recently-renovated pond at the Post Park perfectly mirrored the overlooking bluff, top picture.
The news was not as good for the park’s swimming pool, below. The pool remains empty as funds needed to construct a water filter system
and a finish coat of plaster remain unavailable.
GOING UP – Work was progressing recently on Eve's Garden second floor expansion. “Business is good,” Co-Owner Clyde Curry said. The
expansion is being built with eco-friendly “papercrete.”
