congratulated Kayla for bringing in $510 to pace a $1,862 contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. Mason Blackmon
was second with $500.
CHEVVY GOLF CART – Andy Raney, left, and Jeremy Make are touring the US in a custom-built golf cart looking for all the world like
a 1957 Chevrolet. They are attempting to enter the Guinness Book of Records and hope to find interesting art along the way.
STILL GOING – It was 5:30 a.m. Saturday but new high school graduate Rosa Gonzalez was still going strong. The all-night, chemical-free
Project Graduation entertained the new graduates in the high school gym.
PASS IN REVIEW—Members of the Marfa Sector Honor Guard paraded the colors past the formation of area law enforcement officers during
a memorial service for fallen officers at Sul Ross State University last week. A new “honor board” lists 111 names of West Texas
law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
HEART – Sanderson High School Valedictorian Danell Graham spoke on the importance of “heart” in her remarks at the graduation ceremony
last week. The graduates came away with their diplomas plus nearly $50,000 in scholarships.
LOOK WHAT I GOT – Jayden Montalvo showed off the trophy he won at the end of this year’s Little League and T-Ball baseball season.
President Bobby Stegall handed trophies last week to top players like Jayden.
TWO SLEEPY PEOPLE – Danell Graham fought off sleep in the “wee hours” at Project Graduation last week. Her mom, Monica, seemed to
be losing the battle. The all-night, chemical-free party for graduates went from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
PASSING THROUGH – Dan Altenburg paused for lunch in Marathon this week on an east-to-west coast-to-coast bicycle trip. He is pedaling
from St. Augustine, FL, to San Diego, CA, raising money for water wells in Africa.
WALL OF PROTEST – The “Friendship to Hope Vigil” at Santa Elena Canyon this week protested plans for a wall along the border. “Along
with people in Brownsville and San Diego, we gathered to show support for people on both sides of the US-Mexico border who are suffering
because of a border wall," Terlingua community organizer Adrienne Evans said.
