READ ‘EM, COWBOYMadison Cavness was shown behind a cowboy display at the Summer Reading Program last week at the Marathon Public Library. Jackie Boyd read two books to the kids, “Two Cool Coyotes” and “Way Out West Lives, A Coyote Named Frank,” both by Jillian Lund.

WHERE THE ELKand the antelope play. Mark Glover of the News Leader Marathon Bureau spotted this big rack from US Highway 90 between Marathon and Alpine. Elk are not as common as deer in the area but, as this picture will attest, they are not a rarity either.

WATER BOARDThe audience at the Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District Wednesday was all from Marathon. Board members shown from left were General Manager Conrad Arriola Jr., Leo Dominguez, Mike Davidson, Tom Santry and Billito Donnel behind Hiram Sibley.

ALPINE TROTTINETJessica Garza of Sanderson got up close and personal with the Swiss Alps in her rented “trottinet,” a two-wheel scooter. Jessica toured Europe this summer as a “People to People ambassador.”
