SANDERSON – We had a great turnout with our hayride Saturday.
Wayne Truesdell and Carver Tate gave rides
well into the evening as Mark Carroll snapped pictures for scrapbooks.
All together, we made $33 for 4-H projects.

CROWNING – Miss Fort Stockton Linda Subia Morales was crowned by her predecessor Kati Harral at the Water Carnival in Fort Stockton Saturday. Looking on were First Runner Up Julia Childres, right, and Second Runner Up Genna Young.
NEW LIFE – The Texas Youth Commission boot camp at Sheffield, closed at the end of March, may see new life as an outpost of a Texas
National Guard program for teens at risk. Seaborne ChalleNGe of Galveston will operate the facility and the Iraan-Sheffield Independent
School District plans to provide the educational component, not only for Sheffield but for the Galveston campus as well.
ALL-STAR COACH – Mark Dominguez, head coach and athletic director at Sanderson High School, will coach the All Star West team at the
Six Man Coaches Association All Star game tomorrow. The game, which will also see Eagles Ben Rubio and Raul Salazar, will be at 7:30
p.m. at Lowry Field in Lubbock. Hannah Black of Sanderson will play in the all-star girls basketball game tomorrow afternoon.
GOOD LUCK – Terrell County School Superintendent Gary Hamilton posed last week with Miss Texas, Rebecca Robinson, at the Water Carnival
in Fort Stockton. He said he posed a few years ago with Miss Oklahoma and she then went on to become Miss America. Maybe the same
will happen to the current Miss Texas.
MOVING – The concession stand from which Band Boosters members provided delicacies to football fans at Eagle Stadium will have to
be moved. It is in the line of progress, standing where a new field house will be built under a $14 million Terrell County ISD bond
program. Just where and how it is to be moved have not been determined.
UPSIDE-DOWN SHOWER – Elizabeth McClellan, 5, granddaughter of Reid and Jesse McClellan of Sanderson, cooled off in the “Playscape”
at Bicentennial Park Wednesday. In the back were George Reyes, Brianna Reyes and Holly Adauto.
COMING BACK? – Shafter Mine, closed for 66 years, may get new life next year. Aurcana of Vancouver, BC, plans to restart the mining
for silver to take advantage of prices nearing $20 per troy ounce. The price of silver is up nearly 250 percent over seven years.
NEW FLOOR – Jorge Gonzalez of West Texas Contractors of Fort Stockton tied some “rebar” together this week. In the background, Oscar
Santos, left, and Joe Valdez put rebar in place. The workers were preparing to pour a new floor for the expansion of the Terrell County
Volunteer Fire Department facility at Highway 90 and First Street.
OLD WEST – The old Morrison Hardware store at Highway 90 and First in Sanderson is now a peaceful rest stop with a flavor of the Old
West. Travis and Katie Roberts acquired the property along with the old Princess Theater next door and Kerr Mercantile across the
First Street. Come and sit a spell and watch the world go by.
GOING DOWN – An old house, which has been used as storage for several years just east of the Sanderson Junior High School building,
was torn down this week by Albert Thorn, right, of Sanderson. Getting on top of the job were, from left, Lupe Dueñez, Jr., Ralston
