TOP JOB – Terrell County volunteer fireman David Brotherton walked a high beam last weekend erecting structural steel for an extension
of the fire station. Billy McDonald and Haze Roberts looked on. The firemen, County Road and Bridge workers and others volunteered
their welding and other expertise for the project.
SIX POINTS AHEAD – Sanderson Eagle running back Phillip Lascano had the goal line and six points in sight early in the game with Grandfalls-Royalty
last week. Cowboy Roy Ramirez, 23, was in hot pursuit but Phillip won that race.
BIG LITTLE BROTHER – Jacob Benavidez, left, greeted his smaller big brother John on the sidelines of the Sanderson-Grandfalls football
game last week. Jacob is quarterback for the Eagles and John is defensive coordinator for the Cowboys.
BUNCHA BENAVIDEZ – It was a kind of family reunion last week when the Sanderson Eagles traveled to Grandfalls for a football game.

BEAKER LOVE – Sanderson Eagles’ mascot Beaker cuddled Ava Rose Chapoy at last week’s pep rally. The “ inside” story on Beaker is Jonathan
Calzada who was chosen for the job last week. The mascot is considered part of the school’s cheerleading team.
4-H LEADER – Sanderson sixth grader Grace Jahn, a leader in the Terrell County 4-H Club, told County Commissioners Monday about her
involvement. She likes 4-H “because it’s fun and it teaches leadership skills we can use later in life.” Grace won first place awards
in record book judging and textiles. She and Abby Carrasco won first place in public speaking. Grace is the 4-H reporter this year.

DON’T GET CROSS – Sheryl Autry of the American Legion Auxiliary told County Commissioners Monday the Auxiliary plans to place crosses
at the graves of 151 US veterans buried in Cedar Grove and Santa Rita Cemeteries. The crosses will mark the graves for all to see
and help find them when they are marked with flags every Memorial Day.
TOE TAPPERS – Rick and Jimmy – Rick Ruiz on guitar and Jimmy Villalpardo on drums – were the first guests on Toe Tappin’ Tuesday this
week at the Community Building. They are part of a larger Grupo de la Paz of Alpine but sometimes appear as a duo. The concert series
is provided every September by the Sanderson Arts and Education Alliance at the Pavilion in Bicentennial Park. It moved inside this
week because of rain.
BIRD’S EYE VIEW – Roxanna Rodriguez got a bird’s-eye view of fans cheering on their hometown Sanderson Eagles last week. Giving her

OFFICERS – Student Council officers for the new year at Sanderson High School were announced this week. They are, from left, Secretary
Juliana Castro, Treasurer Jimmy Rapp, Vice President David Shoemaker and President Blakeney Chriesman.
SHORT CAREER – Vince Perna of New York, who was sworn in by District/County Clerk Martha Allen in March, is no longer a Terrell County
Deputy. Sheriff Clint McDonald said Perna was dismissed because of a “violation of county policy and a violation of state law” for
not reporting an accident in a county vehicle.
